Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions

Sleep & Circadian Rhythm

Your body clock takes its instructions from light. Shift work delivers that light at all the wrong times, which is why you end up wide awake at 3am and flattened at 3pm.

CircaRhythm runs the Light & Sound Reset Sequence — a timed sunset that fades the light warm and low as calming sound drops away, and a sunrise that builds light gradually before your alarm. Gradual, not instant. Synced, not separate. Automatic, not manual.

It's designed to work with your body clock rather than fight it.

It's designed to support the two ends of sleep that shift work damages most: how fast you switch off, and how you feel when you wake.

The sunset gives your nervous system something to wind down to instead of a bright ceiling and a busy head. The sunrise brings you up through light before any sound, so you wake gradually rather than being shocked out of deep sleep — which is a large part of why you feel wrecked for the first hour of a shift.

Most people notice a faster wind-down within the first few nights. Feeling genuinely more aligned takes longer — give it a fortnight of consistent use, ideally across a full roster cycle.

Your 30-night guarantee is built around exactly that. Use it properly, then decide.

It's the reason the product exists.

Two independent alarms for early and late starts, sunrise adjustable from 5 to 120 minutes, sunset up to two hours or continuous, and repeat cycles for every day, weekdays or weekends only. Change your settings as your roster changes — from the device or the app.

Nurses, paramedics, FIFO, police, aviation, hospitality and parents of small children. If your week doesn't look the same twice, this was built for you.

Yes — and a dark room actually makes it work better. Your sunset runs against genuine darkness, and your sunrise becomes the only light signal your body gets, which is precisely what you want when the real sun is doing the opposite.

Set the display to Night mode so nothing glows at you while you sleep, and let the sunrise do the waking.

Features & Daily Use

It starts as a deep amber glow and builds gradually to bright daylight over the time you choose — 5 to 120 minutes before your alarm. Smooth, flicker-free, stepless dimming across roughly 1800K to 5000K, up to a 500 lux glow.

By the time any sound plays, your body has already started waking. Set 30 minutes to begin with, then stretch it to 45 or 60 once you're used to it.

Yes — light and sound are the whole point, and they work together rather than separately.

Two alarms with a choice of seven wake tones: Forest, Ocean, Morning, Melodic, Music Box, Wind Chimes and a standard Beep. Volume is yours to set, sound fades in gently, and you can run the sunrise with no sound at all if you'd rather wake to light alone. Snooze is nine minutes on either knob.

Eleven sleep sounds: Rain, Bonfire, Night Whispers, Yoga, Relaxing, White Noise, Hairdryer, Vacuum, Gentle Fan, Power Fan and Shhh.

Set a duration between 5 and 120 minutes and the volume fades down as the light fades out — or choose continuous if you sleep better with sound all night. A good starting point for night shift: 45 minutes, Rain or Night Whispers, low volume, fading light.

Every part of it. Sunset duration, sound, volume and whether the light fades or holds steady. Sunrise duration, wake tone, volume, repeat days and display brightness — Off, Night, Day or Auto.

Set it once for your usual roster and it runs itself. Change it in seconds when your shifts change.

Yes, and most people do. It's a dimmable bedside and reading lamp, a Bluetooth speaker with dual 3W stereo drivers, a clock that syncs its own time over Wi-Fi, and it works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

One device on the nightstand instead of four. No subscription for any of it.

Not unless you want it to. Four display settings: Off for total darkness, Night for a dim glow, Day for full brightness, and Auto, which drops to 10% between 10pm and 6am.

If you sleep during the day, choose Night or Off rather than Auto — Auto assumes you sleep at night, and you don't.

Setup, Power & App
  • CircaRhythm device × 1
  • USB-C to USB-C charging cable × 1
  • Instruction manual × 1

A power adapter is not included — please read the next question before you plug it in. It matters.

CircaRhythm runs on 5V DC 2A (10W). It needs a plain 5V USB-C adapter — the sort that costs about $10 from any electronics retailer, supermarket or chemist.

USB-C is a shape, not a voltage. The cable we supply fits a fast charger perfectly, which is exactly why people get caught out.

The rule: look at the small print on the adapter. If it lists one voltage and that voltage is 5V — "Output: 5V 2A", "5V 2.4A", "5V 3A" — it's right. If it lists several voltages (9V, 12V, 15V, 20V), it's wrong.

Already have a 5V USB-A wall plug in the drawer? That works too, with a USB-A to USB-C cable (not supplied).

Usually not, and it's worth checking before you plug in.

Avoid anything labelled PD, Power Delivery, Quick Charge, QC, SuperCharge, Warp, Turbo or Fast Charge, and all laptop and MacBook chargers (30W, 45W, 65W, 96W). Most recent phone chargers fall into this group.

Not sure? Take a photo of the small print on your adapter and send it to us — we'll tell you in a minute whether it'll work.

  1. Download Smart Life and create an account.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth and Location on your phone — both are needed for the device to be found.
  3. Connect your phone to your 2.4GHz network. CircaRhythm doesn't support 5GHz.
  4. Plug the device in and wait for the Wi-Fi icon to blink.
  5. In the app, tap Add Device, then Add when it appears.
  6. Choose your 2.4GHz network, enter the password, and you're done.

Keep your phone, the device and the router close together while pairing.

Two quick fixes:

  1. With the light off, long press the right knob to reset the Wi-Fi, then pair again.
  2. In Smart Life, long press the device icon → Remove Device → pair again.

If the app itself is misbehaving, go to Me → settings gear → Clear Cache. Still stuck? Email us — we'll walk you through it.

Orders, Warranty & Support

Free shipping Australia-wide. Orders are dispatched within 24–48 hours and typically arrive in 2–7 business days, depending on where you are. You'll get tracking as soon as it leaves us.

Sleep through 30 nights with it. If it hasn't helped, email us and we'll refund the purchase price in full — no interrogation.

We only ask that you give it a proper run across a full roster cycle, because that's when the difference shows. Return postage is at your cost.

Yes — 12 months from the date of purchase against manufacturing faults, on top of the 30-night guarantee.

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply as well and aren't limited by anything here. There are no user-serviceable parts inside, so please don't open the unit — that will void the warranty. Get in touch and we'll sort it.

Safety

No. CircaRhythm is a circadian light and sound system designed to support healthy sleep and wake routines. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition. It's made for people whose schedules pull their body clock out of sync, including those struggling with Shift Work Sleep Disorder — but if you have a diagnosed sleep or health condition, please speak with your doctor.

Two other things we'll say plainly. CircaRhythm is for adult use only — indoors, and not a toy. And keep a backup alarm for a shift that matters: a power interruption, a network issue or a mis-set alarm can stop any connected device sounding as expected, ours included.

CircaRhythm holds a small lithium button battery that keeps the time and your settings during a power cut. It is fully sealed inside the enclosure and is not user-replaceable. Keep button batteries out of reach of children. Swallowing a button battery can cause serious injury or death in as little as two hours. If you suspect a button battery has been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 and seek immediate medical attention.

Full care, handling and safety instructions are in the manual in the box.
